American Express WON’T refund you $200 for your iPhone

American Express WON

In case you thought American Express will refund you $200 for your iPhone purchase, think again. American Express’ Buyer’s Assurance program has STOPPED last year. Even if you’re one of the lucky Platinum or Centurion card owners, that still won’t get you your $200 back. The same rules applies for both Personal and Business cards. Face it - you’ll have to accept Apple’s $100 coupon and purchase something from their store. In case you’re a Mac user, wait a bit and purchase Leopard as soon as it’s available. Or grab some song… or keep whining - it’s your call! It sucks to be an early adopter sometimes… :(

UPDATE: BoyGenius have a follow up on the article. Apparently, American Express card owners concerned about their iPhone purchases should call in, file a claim, and American Express will be reviewing these claims on a case-by-case basis.” Nice move AMEX!

I dont know why people are complaining, thats life!

If you buy a computer then it drops in value 2 months later do you complain?

No, thats how the market works. You can try it on with the retailer but you normally dont get anywhere with the manufacturer.

I think Apple are doing something that really no other company would do. Be grateful that they are offering a $100 credit to their online store.

I have an AmEx platinum card and my $200 plus tax WAS refunded to my card last week. Considering that and the Apple Store credit, I guess it’s a great time to be an early adopter.

Hey guys, just got a $100 credit from Amex, $100 from Apple. I didn’t ‘expect’ either, but sure don’t mind them. http://www.notebooks.com/2007/09/20/american-express-iphone-purchase-protection-just-got-my-credit/

I have a cheap Costco Platinum card with no annual fees. I called AE just like the rest when the price drop was announced. I was told the price protection plan was discontinued but they would review my case. I just noticed on my account a $100 credit labeled as “GOODWILL CREDIT:PURCHASE PROT CLAIM ” dated 9/21.
With $100 from AE and $100 from Apple, I think I’m gonna buy my family another iPhone charging it to my American Express card. It’a s beautiful combination!
