12 new OpenMoko screenshots, prepare for disappointment

If the iPhone taught the industry anything it is that features don’t count. You can make something technically inferior, but with a superior experience and move a lot of product. The OpenMoko guys are trying something new, they want to make a device that is open in every sense of the word. Opensource kernel, drivers, baseband software, a completely open device. Their intentions aren’t really clear, at least to me, but I commend them for trying something new. Now if they could only find a new UI guy.[Screenshots on my Flickr account uploaded from HRW because he got dugg]

Well, if there were real-looking data in there instead of keyboard upchuck, it would look better. That said, this is an early generation device. The UI will improve, and the list of applications will grow. I’m keeping my eyes on this one.

It would be sooo nice to not be beholden to manufacturers for software updates.

I suspect the Google phone might just use the Open Moko
