Nokia Maps application gets updatedFollowing on Nokia (NYSE: NOK)’s launch of the Ovi web service, the Finnish handset manufacturer has announced that one of Ovi’s services is now updated with a few new features. Nokia’s updated their popular Maps application for compatible Nokia handsets. There’s a data counter to let you know exactly how much data you’re sucking down, a GPS status indicator to let you know when your synced-up with a GPS satellite, and a revised PC Map Loader to make sideloading of navigation maps a breeze - “The improved Map Loader transfers the maps up to 10 times faster than the first version and enables downloading the voice guidance files.”

As it’s aligned with the new Ovi initiative from Nokia, you’ll have to pony up a monthly fee to use the Nokia Maps application, but you get a 3-day trial period when you download the new Maps app.

Find out if your phone is compatible and take the new Nokia Maps application for a three-day spin.

To correct: Nokia Maps is still free - no fees, no trials. It’s the voice guidance and other “extras” that’ll cost if you choose to use them.
