Sprint Nextel launches Airave, femtocells to stop making you pray to the gods of reception

We all have a friend who lives in the dead zone. A place where you have to stand with your head out the window to get one bar and a place you know you will never hear a 50 Cent ringtone go off. Sprint (NYSE: S) wants to change all that, they are launching a new service called Airave that will cost $50 up front for a device that hooks up to your broadband and then $15 per month per person or $30 per family. This box will handle up to 3 calls at once and cover an area of about 5,000 square feet. Sprint is looking into developing such a solution for businesses by creating a box that can handle 12 of more calls. T-Mobile (NYSE: DT) has UMA which is different and inferior in my mind seeing that it works with only wifi equipped devices, Airave works with you already existing Sprint handset. Props to Sprint.
