Nokia: ITC starts Qualcomm investigation

Nokia wants to world to know that the complaint that they filed with the US International Trade Commission (ITC) has finally come to a head. The US ITC has just kicked off yet another investigation into Qualcomm (NSDQ: QCOM)’s trade practices and alleged patent infringement – this time at the behest of Nokia (NYSE: NOK).

Nokia filed the complaint last month, accusing Qualcomm of infringing on patents and requesting that the ITC institute another ban on the US import of Qualcomm chipsets. “We believe there is significant evidence that Qualcomm has copied Nokia’s patented technology without permission and has used these innovations in certain GSM/WCDMA and CDMA2000 chipsets,” said a Nokia spokeswoman.

The legal battles for Qualcomm just don’t seem to be coming to an end. Granted, they’ve been battling Nokia for quite some time now, it seems Qualcomm is just getting beat up over patent disputes – it’s starting to make sense for Motorola to snub Qualcomm in favor of Texas Instruments (NYSE: TXN). Qualcomm fired back at Nokia with their own US ITC filing that accused Nokia of infringing on Qualcomm patents. It’d be nice if we could all just get along, eh, Nokia/Qualcomm/Broadcom/Interdigital.
