Blyk: 217 free texts, 43 free minutes, SIM card only, invite only, ad supported service for kids

Talk about a pile of hype large enough to hit the moon. Blyk is having a press conference right now and the folks at Tech Digest are doing a great job covering it on their live blog. The essential pieces of information you need to know are that the ads are nothing more than an MMS message, Blyk doesn’t sell handsets, they only mail you a SIM card. You have to be between 16 - 24 to sign up for the service and be invited to join, no exceptions. You get 270 free text messages a month and 40 free minutes, no data. The following currencies are all British Sterling: Data is 99 cents per megabyte, text messages are 10 cents per and minutes cost 15 cents each per after you go past your monthly allowance.

Had the interview yesterday and it the place looked great.
Open plan offices with everyone on their imacs or laptops with glass walls surrounding the main offices.
Couple of guys were playing on the wii in the canteen area with everyone in informal clothing.
Apparently Pekka is stressing a family-esque environment.
I got shown an advert for a wrestling game, it was quite simplistic and the ads are available to every mobile platform.
217 txts and 43 mins apparently caters for 4.5m of the 6.5 million pas as you go mobile users in the 16-24 age bracket in the UK, so Blyk will effectively reduce their txt and call bills to zero!
Interesting job, the compnay is very much in it’s infancy but it does seem very much set up for long term success.

what i dont get is what do blyk get out of this they not gonna make money for giving free minues and texts away and if you think about it it say 217 minutes in the heading and 270 on the main pharagraph they want you to talk over the monthly limit so they can charge you extra and i think the company is gonna get bank errupt in about 1-2 years time

a lot of the old codes dont work. Ebay has people selling codes from 49p to £4.99!!!
BUT you can get free one at http://www.blykcode.com.
I think the site owner set it up to stop people getting ripped off on ebay.
They give you a code for free but ask that you send them an invite code back once you get the sim and order some invite codes by texting INVITE to 247 on the blyk sim.
