MySpace announces free, ad-supported mobile phone
Posted by Will on Monday, September 24th, 2007 at 1:38 pm under Services, Applications, Announcements
The uber-popular (at least as far as a spam-infested, pseudo-wannabe-celebrity-populated social network can be…Facebook anyone?) social network has just announced a new mobile version for MySpace-branded mobile phone for MySpace junkies. It looks like MySpace will be joining the likes of Google in bringing an ad-supported mobile phone to market.
Adding to the premium subscription services already offered by AT&T and Helio, MySpace will also be launching a new mobile version of its mobile platform that will work on all US carriers and will give users the ability to send and receive messages and friend requests, comment on pictures, post bulletins, update blogs, and find and search for friends.
The new ad-supported mobile phone and online platform is parent company News Corp.'s attempt to attract mobile advertisers. MySpace will start selling sponsorship and banner-advertising to mobile advertisers, with targeted advertising (based on user-profile information) to follow soon.
All those MySpace users competing to see just how big they can spam build their friend-network will undoubtedly be happy to hear that they'll be able to keep track of Tila Tequila on their MySpace phones. Great.
Update: MySpace isn't just rolling out a new version of its online platform, they'll be launching a free, ad-supported mobile phone.
