India now has more than 200 million mobile phone users

See, it’s not just China who’s growing like crazy in terms of number of mobile phone users. As a matter of fact they may be the world’s fastest growing economy, but it’s India which at the moment gets more mobile phone users every month.
After adding another eight million subscribers last month, Indian mobile phone users has passed the 200 million mark. However, the growth is still coming from the cities and the carriers still wait to cash-in from the wider adoption of mobile phones among the rural areas where nearly 70% of India’s 1.1 billion population live. In addition, we know that the government aims for more than half a billion mobile phone subscribers by 2010. No wonder, big carriers want to big there…
