Nokia orders WiMAX chips from Intel, new Internet Tablet in 1H 2008 confirmed

I’m still skeptical about WiMAX, the world is moving towards UMTS based LTE, hell even Verizon (NYSE: VZ) dropped CDMA. This is not stopping Nokia (NYSE: NOK) from wanting to test how effective WiMAX will be in the future. A spokesperson for Nokia told Reuters that “Nokia will roll out the first WiMax-enabled Internet tablets using Intel chips in the first half of 2008.” Testing is already under way in Sprint (NYSE: S) Nextel’s lab in Virgina. No numbers are available so it is hard to say how seriously Nokia is taking this emerging wireless technology.
