Remember that Motorola Z6tv VCAST TV slider-phone that recently passed through the FCC? Well, it looks like Verizon (NYSE: VZ) Wireless is going to launch the mobile-TV slider on October 5 – missing our speculated launch window of “late August” by a fairly wide margin.
The Motorola (NYSE: MOT) Z6tv will complement Verizon Wireless stable of two MediaFLO-based mobile-TV phones with a slick slider form factor. We’re expecting the Moto Z6tv to rock a 2 megapixel camera, 50MB onboard storage, stereo Bluetooth, and microSD card slot. Look for Verizon to drop the Z6tv on us October 5, for about $180 (after $50 rebate with new contract).

In Announcements, Apple, Financial/Corporate News, iPhone
In case the completely obvious wasn’t all that obvious, Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster released a report to clients that Apple (NSDQ: AAPL) was still selling iPhones at a higher-than-expected level, following the September 5 price cuts. The 33% price cut heard ’round the world was followed by a 300% increase in iPhone sales, but it seems to have died down to around a 70%-100% increase, compared to the pre-price-drop demand. Analysts had predicted that increased demand would stabilize to a sustained 50% increase over previous demand. Munster expects Apple to sell 1.05 million iPhones by the end of September.
Is it really surprising that cutting the price of the (arguably) most desirable phone to launch in the US was followed by feverish sales? Considering the spend-happy culture that is American society, we think it makes a lot of sense. Afterall, the iPhone is going to be a staple of many Christmas wishlists this year.

In AT&T, Announcements, Apple, iPhone
And they just keep coming in. The latest iPhone-related lawsuit is aimed not only at the iPhone maker, but at the exclusive iPhone carrier (AT&T (NYSE: T)), as well as Mr. Steve Jobs himself. The suit was filed on September 24 in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York, Queens. The plaintiff, Dongmei Li, alleges that the iPhone “trio” is guilty of price discrimination, underselling, discrimination in rebates, and deceptive actions in the recent iPhone price cuts that left early iPhone adopters feeling the pain of the $200 hit.
What motivated Li to pursue legal action? Well, first she waited in the launch-day line for the iPhone. Then she found that the store only had 4GB iPhones in stock, so she bought one – which isn’t exactly a horrible story. But then Apple (NSDQ: AAPL) slashed the price of the 8GB iPhone and discontinued the 4GB model – leaving Li with an unsellable, discontinued iPhone model.
The complaint mentions that discrimination comes into play because Li was only offered the $100 store credit while those that had purchased their iPhones two-weeks prior to the price cut were refunded $200 in cash. Furthermore, historical analysis of Apple’s stock price (which Li provided in the 8-page complaint) outlined Apple’s incredible stock-market gains in the time period preceding the price cut. Apple had no financial reason to cut prices, and Li reasoned that the price drop amounted to nothing more than “underselling.”
If Ms. Li is to win her $1 million (in compensatory damages) case against Apple, Steve Jobs, and AT&T, she definitely won’t have to worry about buying another 8GB iPhone (or a dozen) at the new price. This lawsuit seems to be the most legit case that anyone has filed against Apple. We’re not sure if “underselling” is a prosecutable offense, but Li and her attorney sure do make a good case. It’s too bad she didn’t opt to go the class-action lawsuit-route – so that we could all benefit, should she win.

In Devices, Samsung, Telus
In case you live in Canada and were looking for an affordable handset, you may want to consider Samsung U540 which just recently landed to Telus (NYSE: TU)’ offering. The Samsung U540 is a SPARK-enabled device, meaning you will be able access Telus’ popular multimedia service. In addition, Samsung’s light clamshell (it weighs just 80 grams) also comes with 1.3 MP camera, two screens (external 96×96 and internal 220×176 pixels), stereo Bluetooth (A2DP), mp3 player and the microSD memory expansion slot.
So, who should buy this device? As I said, this one’s for everyone searching for an affordable clamshell that can also work as an mp3 player. Pair some decent stereo Bluetooth headsets with it (like MOTO ROKR S9), and you’re ready to enjoy your favorite tunes while on the go. On the other hand, if you want more features, keep looking — this device isn’t for you.
Finally the price. Telus is offering the Samsung U540 for $69.99 CAD with a three-year term, or for $249.99 CAD without any contract.

I’ve finally got an opportunity to test the Motorola’s active ROKR S9 headsets. In what will be the series of video clips, you’ll be able to see just how cool this Bluetooth headsets are. The first video is all about unboxing. It’s not exactly the loudest video I ever took, but what the heck — you’ll get the point. Beside the headset, the retail package also contains some promotional materials, guide and different sizes of those gummy things that go into your ears. First impression – I love it!
P.S. Thanks to Motorola (NYSE: MOT) for sending this in.

In Gaming
Urban Attack is Vivendi Games Mobile’s upcoming first person shooter game optimized for mobile devices. The “optimized” part means the game doesn’t feature some heavy weight 3D graphics most devices can’t run — rather they’ve scaled it down, hence making the game working on (almost) all mobile phones.

In Urban Attack, the year is 2046 and you lead Yuri, a freedom fighter who finds himself battling against a totalitarian regime. The game consists of more elements, and you will be able to play in a sniper mode, solve mini puzzles and of course shoot all the enemies on the screen. PocketGamer says this will be one title worth watching and we trust them. Prepare for the Christmas release and in the meantime check out the screenshots which follow after the break.

Again, it’s Maximus who spotted the all black Nokia (NYSE: NOK) N93i “multimedia computer.” The black version looks way more serious and masculine than the original N93i, although I still have my N93 and loving it. Now if Nokia would release an update for the N93 which would add A2DP, that would be awesome. In the meantime, if you want the black N93i, hop over to Asia (not sure which countries) and grab this baby… One more image after the jump.

We’ve already posted that the latest iPhone firmware version (1.1.1) is now live and that you can update your beloved handset at any time you want. On one side you’ll get an access to the WiFi iTunes Music store, improved security and louder volume; while on the other, you’ll lose all your favorite native third party applications, hence limiting the iPhone to Web 2.0 apps and services. Is it worth it? I don’t think so, and so does Gizmodo which prepared some very neat illustrations. From there you’ll see why you shouldn’t go the route of the latest firmware update — or, that’s at least we don’t see this firmware hacked as well…

In Devices, Meizu, iPhone
Roughly a week ago, we spotted first screenshots of the Meizu’s MiniOne M8 user interface. As you’re about to see, the screenshots looks kinda familiar. Forget that, they look so iPhone-ish that I’m sure Apple (NSDQ: AAPL)’s lawyers are rejoicing as we speak for the additional cash they’re about to make. Truth to be said, there are some differences, but most of them are so minor that this will most likely be one of the Apple’s cleanest cases. I just don’t understand Meizu where they think this leads…

Imagine the power you’d have. You could be walking around with a Palm (NSDQ: PALM) Phone Jammer in your, well, palm – all the while knowing you can wreak havoc on wireless callers around you on a whim. The Palm Phone Jammer does just what the name implies – it’s a $166 GSM signal (850/900/1800/1900Mhz) disrupter that fits in the palm of your hand. Any wireless callers within a 30 foot radius will be left wondering why their mobile phones are suddenly useless.
Great, adding to the grief that obnoxious public-phone-talkers cause us, now we’ll have to deal with the annoying wireless signal jammer too. Thanks a lot, Palm Phone Jammer.
