Palm’s Ed Colligan talks new OS to investors; We’ve heard it all before

PalmPalm’s Ed Colligan has been talking to investors about the company’s “upcoming” mobile OS. According to reports, Ed confirmed that Centro and Foleo teams are cooperating and are “totally focused” on the Linux-based OS. The bad news is that we’ll have to wait for the end of the next calendar year to see Palm (NSDQ: PALM)’s baby taking first steps. In addition, he said that the new platform will allow the company to implement it across various products — meaning it will work on both smartphones and “mobile companions”. Finally, Ed stated Palm doesn’t plan to hand over smartphone market to anyone else, and that their “revolutionary devices” will take back the market share.

You got that right, we’ve heard this all before. While I want to believe, I just don’t see that many people buying Garnet-based phones next year “till the new OS comes.” Or Palm is going to push more Windows Mobile OS-based devices? I don’t know and frankly this reaches the point where I don’t want to know. Why don’t they just license ALP or Symbian…?
