Sisi helps us “speak” to deaf via video

Sisi (Say it, Sign it) is a new useful system developed as part of IBM’s Extreme Blue initiative to help users communicate with deaf people. The idea is combine the existing avatar technology, take the input from text and then convert it into British Sign Language (BSL). As a result, the software on the server generates a video clip with the avatar signing.
At the moment, the team behind Sisi sees the technology being used primarily for voicemails and instant messaging. However, in the future they hope it will be used on a wider basis and that other languages will also be supported. Again, it’s great to see technology being used for the good…
