Nokia’s Ovi: More pieces of the puzzle to be revealed at the Web 2.0 Summit
By Stefan Constantinescu on Saturday, October 13th, 2007 at 5:13 AM PST In Nokia, Ovi

It all started with this article at Information Week that said Nokia (NYSE: NOK) would be attending the Web 2.0 Summit. Low and behold I went to the Web 2.0 Summit homepage and there it is, Nokia’s logo in the top right hand corner being labeled as a platinum sponsor. They poured more money into the Web 2.0 Summit than either Microsoft (NSDQ: MSFT), Adobe or Sun. This has got to be big I’m thinking, but who exactly is going to be speaking at this event? I pinged Rafe from All About Symbian over Skype to help me piece this together and we quickly discovered it was none other than Anssi Vanjoki, speaking on Wednesday October 17, 2007 at 16:00. Would Nokia be telling the Valley the same story it told us at the London at the Go Play event? As a platinum sponsor I doubt it. Some more clicking around and I quickly discovered that Nokia will be holding a party, here is the caption:
Nokia will also be hosting a stylish party in the adjacent Twin Peaks room, which will showcase their next generation of Web 2.0 offerings, launched earlier that afternoon.
Bingo. Caught red handed. What could it be? I have absolutely no clue. Remember however, the 17th is one day before Q3 earnings are to be published. Showing something fantastic in the Valley could get investors all giddy and we might see the stock price go up a little more than it usually would.

I think it is the same thing that they showed in london again…
Infoweek speculates (via JAMB):
“Nokia’s “major product announcement” may include a new Web 2.0-enabled smartphone that could rival Apple’s iPhone. Already, Nokia has set itself up for advanced mobile experiences with a feature announced this week that “auto-connects” Nokia users to Wi-Fi hotspots.”
Sounds like the N81 8GB?
I hope not, but probally yes.
Your speculating way to much here. This party is a continuation of their West Coast rollout as evidenced by their recent party here in Los Angeles.
There’s a linux based smart phone with an emphasis on web offerings in the works… but… it’s definitely not going to hit the S60 side. It’s sort of a one shot kind of concept deal, kind of like the plymouth prowler… and probably with the same results.
Joe Smith.. wow.. do you know that for a fact? So some kind of evolution from the internet tablets (770/N800)?
There is an invite-only product launch Wed morning before the summit begins. This is the “earlier that afternoon” referred to in the IntoMobile quote above. Look for Nokia’s new stuff, whatever it is, to hit the InterWebs Wed morning California time.
Proofs
I’m going to be on an airplane flying back to Finland by the time that happens.
Some phone/gadget bloggers I know were invited to a Nokia breakfast. Invite only, NDA agreement, can’t blog about it. I know that sounds made-up, but it’s not – but I can’t give details in case it got traced back to them and Nokia took their breakfast invites away!
But by 10am or so San Francisco time that day whatever was launched will hit the Web. Probably sooner since things always get leaked.
damn, I’ll be at work. Freakin a.
Maybe the Nokia N810 tablet?
From all the devs I’ve spoken to it’s supposed to be a real improvement over the N800, which is pretty awesome as it is, although very much a niche product.
