Stan Stigman steps down as AT&T Wireless chiefWhat’s with all the wireless company executive resignations going on these days? AT&T’s chief, Ed Whitacre handed the reigns off to Randall Stephenson last June. There’s HTC USA’s head honcho Todd Achilles. Then we heard that Sony Ericsson’s CEO, Miles Flynt, is taking off on November 1. Then Sprint’s top-executive Gary Forsee is ousted. And the latest changing-of-the-guard involves AT&T Wireless. The AT&T Wireless CEO, Stan Sigman, stepped down last Thursday after a 42-year run as the No. 1 guy in AT&T’s wireless division.

We can’t say this is necessarily a bad thing. Change is good, after all. But, it’s just surprising to see this many top-execs shuffling around like they’re in a big ole’ wireless game of musical chairs. Mr. Sigman has been replaced by Ralph de la Vega, but the Stan will be sticking around to make sure everything goes smoothly until year’s end. Stan Stigman oversaw the rebranding of Cingular to the “New AT&T.”

We’ll miss ya, Stan. It’s not like we really knew you or anything, but you did good by us.
