Verizon launches UM150, USB modem with microSD slot

Verizon (NYSE: VZ) Wireless launched the new USB wireless modem, UM150, through business sales channels and online. As expected, the UM150 is optimized to work with the carrier’s EV-DO Rev. A network and their BroadbandAccess service. Naturally, the modem is compatible with most laptop and desktop systems, including both PCs and Mac, although for the latter it is required that you run OS X 10.3.9 or higher.

What about the speeds? Verizon promises that their users can experience download speeds ranging from 600 kbps to 1.4 mbps, and average upload speeds of 500-800 kbps. In addition, the UM150 USB modem also works as a flash drive, thanks to the built-in microSD memory slot. Kinda neat, as now you won’t have to carry two USB devices but one.

Finally, let’s talk about the price. Verizon is selling the UM150 for $79.99 after a $50 mail-in rebate and the new BroadbandAccess two-year agreement — BroadbandAccess could be yours for as little as $59.99 per month. Kinda pricey, but then again you DO want to be always online, don’t you?
