Facebook platform goes mobile

By Dusan Belic on Friday, October 26th, 2007 at 6:17 AM PST In Announcements, Developer, Services

At the CTIA, Facebook has announced their mobile platform to allow deeper integration between mobile phones and the website. As far as we can tell, the platform has been improved with two key additions.

Facebook logoFirst, Facebook introduced a new FBML tag, “fb:mobile”, to allow Facebook application developers to show content exclusively to mobile phones. Second, the popular social network opened its SMS platform, which will let users interact with each other on Facebook via SMS. The latter is more significant, as it will make Facebook look more appealing to their international user base, who will be able to do their “Facebook thing” via SMS wherever they are…

More information about the platform is available from here.

The functionality is still primitive but you can view your friends, events, update your status and send notifications.
