Video: Nokia Music Store Demo (Verdict: iTunes what?)

The Nokia (NYSE: NOK) Music Store went up for less than an hour, it is down now, then again it shouldn’t have even been launched for another 9 hours. All that aside, James Burland at Nokia Creative got access to the store and he made a demonstration video:
James why do you act as if Microsoft (NSDQ: MSFT)’s DRM is such a bad thing? Doesn’t your iPod have DRM? Burnnn and correction, it is 192 kbps WMA. You know I love you, but right now I hate you for playing with the store before I can.
Looks great! The issue with Windows DRM is that it only works on Windows – no mac. At least the iTunes Apple DRM works on both sides. Sorry linux.
The thing I most annoyed about is having to fire up Windows in Fusion just to stream my Nokia Music Store tracks, Mac support would have been nice, but N95/N81 support for streaming is vital! But, if Nokia can give us some kind of schedule for adding streaming support on the phones, I’ll be happy . . . just as long as it’s not a year away!!
I totally agree with James.
Again, Secured WMA files only play on Windows… While Nokia is usually a Mac-Opened company (iSync compatible phones, Nokia Media Tranfser Tools, etc… when others do nothing at all), this is a major step back.
How do you know its a “major step back”? Although Nokia has been relatively Mac friendly, when have they ever released a Mac solution at the same time with the Windows one? After all, like it or not, Apple still has only a small fraction of the PC business.
My iPod doesn’t have any DRM. Some of the music sold on the iTunes store does, but I don’t buy any of that anyway, only the DRM-free tracks.
Every online music store else is moving away from DRM music, so it is a definitely a “bad thing” that Nokia’s store has _only_ DRM music.
So far, that is. They only opened in one country a few hours ago.
Mac-Users ? Dont Nokia music store work with this?

Stefan what are you on about?? DRM is a bad thing in general – I have an ipod but have never and will never use the itunes music store because of its DRM and low bitrate tracks (although infact a lot of tracks can now be had DRM free, unlike the Nokia store). As a result of the DRM I wont use the Nokia music store as I wont be able to use the tracks on my ipod and/or it places restrictions on future use of the track.
Chris, I would rather say “Unlike the Nokia store in one country a few after its launch”.
And, I suspect, DRM or not is not a decision purely up to Nokia to make anyway.
I’ll still be buying a physical CD from the shops until someone releases a decent DRM free solution. Coke music store just ceased operations and all their customers are screwed now.

I am not knocking Nokia per se just DRM. I cant believe its even allowed, the majority of consumers dont know what it is, and after changing mp3 player or computer none of the DRM tracks will work! (You could say their fault for no finding out first but 90% of consumers probably dont know).
