MOTO ROKR S9 Bluetooth headset

We’ve already posted two videos about Motorola (NYSE: MOT)’s active Bluetooth headset - S9. Now it’s time to shortly review it — after all, we’ve already seen them reviewed in great depth by several websites.

First the good things. The S9 is perfectly designed for its targeted audience. Even though it’s kinda strange to wear them for the first couple of times, you’ll get used to it pretty quickly thanks to the great ergonomics. The sound quality is good but the bass is where the S9 really shines. Finally, the overall look and build quality is there as well, even though Motorola managed to keep them lightweight (about 30 grams).

As for the negatives, the S9 will NOT work with all handsets — it is required that your device supports stereo Bluetooth (A2DP), but that’s actually not a problem with most of the modern handsets. In addition, the battery life of up to 6 hours of music listening, and 7 hours of phone talk time isn’t that great, though it’s more than enough for the average user, myself included. Then there’s the speech transfer quality which is somewhat expected — there’s external microphone. Finally, it takes some time to remember where each of the buttons is located.

The question is should you buy? If you jog, go to gym or do some other workout often, the answer is YES! The ROKR S9 is THE headset for “active” people. However, be warned that you’ll also want to have another (mono) headset for everyday’s use. When you’re driving for instance…

the mic from the s9 is built into the left ear speaker and it actually draws your voice through your ear canal when you wear it, that’s why it is able to block out external noises and deliver crystal clear voice when you talk.

I am SOOOO disappointed. While these headphones pair up quickly the base response is terrible. I still have my old Motorola bluetooth headphones HT820, which i have head so many comments about it looking like pricess Leah’s (Starwars) side hair-buns. I’m glad now I didn’t get rid of them. So my old ones have a much better BASS RESPONSE than these new rokr s9 model. I am very particular about headphones that should have some kind of decent bass sound. The motorola s9 has almost NO bass response, compared to the HT820 bluetooth. I’ll give them to my kids for Christmas (they’re not so concerned about bass). What a shame

Yeah, it’s missing the bass, but for a workout they rock. Especially now with the new lower price.

I’m thinking of buying one of these for running. Yet I’m worried that it will bug me if it bounces a lot behind my head. Does anyone use their S9 for running and does it Bounce a lot behind your head to get annoying? Thank You

  5. Raidium says:

They are very nice, they don’t bounce around as much as you would think. They only complaint I get is that people have trouble hearing me at times but not very often. Other then that, and the bass trouble talked about above, its a very nice device for jogging. I hope I was able to help with your concern. :D

This is the worst headset i have ever owned i’m on my 5th pair.. i workout eveyday if you get sweat in them, they will stop working. frist the volume goes them the rest of the buttons .. i spoke to motorola about this and someone from them told me that this is a known issue. DO NOT BUY IF YOU WILL WORKOUT

  7. adam says:

What chris said. Total and utter garbage if you actually sweat when you run. Mine lasted about two weeks before the slow (meaning another two weeks) decline to complete worthlessness. Besides that, I had to max out volume to hear them over the treadmill. My kingdom for a working running headset.

  8. GARY says:
