3’s Skypephone selling like hotcakes

So, it’s not just the iPhone that’s selling like fresh, delicious hotcakes in the UK. The other hot, new handset to hit the island is the 3 Skypephone. We were waiting on the 3 Skypephone launch to see how the hotly anticipated handset would fare in the UK market, and it’s doing damn well. The Skypephone isn’t the high-end jobby that is the iPhone, but with the prospect of making VoIP calls on a pre-paid handset, it’s not hard to see why 3’s retail stores are having trouble keeping the Skypephone in stock.
A spokesperson for 3 said that, “A number of stores have sold out, but there will be plenty of stock in for the weekend.” It seems that the interest factor in making internet calls on a pre-paid phone with a minimum £10 a month payment is high, to say the least. Way to go, 3 and Skype. It looks like you guys got a winner on your hands. We wouldn’t put it in our hands, but hey, to each their own.

Does skype have some other free VOIP players like fring and others ?
Part of the reason the handsets are selling so well is that customers are buying more than one device at a time.
One for grandma, one for sister, one for mum and so on.
Great idea though!
It’s a mighty fine phone, I have no shame in carrying it around with me. I’m still stuck with an N73 (hopefully for only a bit longer) and the Skypephone does many things better than the N73. For a start, the music player is better – it’s quicker, more logical and works well in the background, it also supports stereo bluetooth. The N73 on the other hand… And access to things like Facebook is almost instantaneous.
And if Three and Amoi can churn these out at £50 PAYG/pre-pay can you imagine what they could do for two or three times that amount?
