YouMail partners with Salient Media to provide comedic voicemail greetings from Katt Williams

I don’t know have you heard about YouMail. They have created a service that (among other things) recognizes people who call and allows users to record a different greeting tailor-made just for them, either by the user or chosen from YouMail’s archive of thousands of pre-recorded greetings. And now, they’re announcing their first premium content partnership…

Apparently, it’s YouMail’s partnership with Salient Media users should thank to for the new, premium series of greetings. Just imagine someone calls you, and instead of reaching you, he/she gets a humorous greeting from rapper, comedian and actor Katt Williams.

The limited number of Katt’s greeting are available for free, but if you really want to impress your friends – you may want to sign-up for a premium account that costs from $1.99/month to $9.99/month, depending on the number of different greetings you wish to use at one time.

It’s hard to tell whether this can work, but apparently YouMail already has a strong user base, hence they should be able to easily monetize it. We’ll follow how this goes, but in the meantime you can check out the full release after the jump.

PRESS RELEASE – YouMail, Inc., the mobile industry’s premiere consumer voicemail service, today announced it is partnering with Salient Media to offer exclusive comedic voicemail greetings. YouMail will be offering free greetings from Salient entertainers in addition to rich and extensive content through a subscription-based model. The first set of greetings will come from comedian, actor and rapper Katt Williams, in connection with the release of his new DVD American Hustle. With YouMail, users can download greetings from the movie and Katt Williams and assign them to specific users based on caller ID. Katt Williams is best known for his triple platinum selling DVD Pimp Chronicles pt. 1 and HBO’s highest rated comedy special of 2006.

Katt Williams is an award-winning and highly respected comedian, appearing in a variety of television shows, such as The Tracy Morgan Show, My Wife and Kids, NYPD Blue, Cuts, Girlfriends and MTV’ Wild ‘N Out with Nick Cannon. He has provided numerous skits and video appearances for artists such as Ludacris, E-40, Outkast, Lil’ Kim, Lyfe Jennings, Nick Cannon, Suga Free, Lil’ Scrappy and a variety of up-and-coming artists.

Beginning with Katt Williams, YouMail will offer premium voicemail greetings in addition to its current library of thousands of free user-generated and professional voicemail greetings and away messages. Users will be able to download a limited number of free exclusive Katt Williams greetings as well as take advantage of numerous other greetings based on subscription fees ranging from $1.99/month to $9.99/month, depending on the number of different greetings the user wishes to use at one time.

Salient is YouMail’s first content partnership for greetings. YouMail plans to announce additional premium content agreements from additional actors, musicians and entertainers in the coming months.
