irRemote for S60 3rd edition released; Turns your phone into a universal remote control

Remember Psiloc’s irRemote from the days of Series60 2nd edition? Well, it has been finally ported to work with the latest Nokia (NYSE: NOK) and other S60 3rd edition based smartphones.

By now you probably understood how the application works. By using the infrared port (unfortunately the Nokia N82 lacks one), it turns your smartphone into a universal remote control. Supported devices include TV and audio systems, air condition, tuner, SAT, VCR — plus you can always extend the list by uploading codes for them through the provided online wizard.

I’ve been waiting for this for so long. Hopefully, irRemote will make Nokia and other Symbian S60 licensees think where to place infrared ports on their devices. No I don’t want it on the side! ;)

well,i wouldn’t mind the IR position that much, but it would be cool if the LED power could be boosted by SW, so that the actual range could be extended to more than about 2 meters like it is now with my N95-1.. ;-)
