Mio plans to go mobile next year

With modern mobile phones getting more and more features, there’s no doubt in my mind that the single-purpose devices are set to extinct. That being said it’s kinda easy to predict the end of pure MP3 player and GPS navigation device markets in the years to come.
Taiwan-based Mio knows that and according to the “market sources” they will be joining the “mobile game” at some point next year. Apparently, the GPS navigation device manufacturer’s move is a countermeasure against the strategy adopted by a number of handset vendors like HTC, Asus, BenQ and E-Ten. The story goes further suggesting that it’s Qualcomm (NSDQ: QCOM) which will provide the 3.5G platform for the future devices…
Hmm, earlier we’ve heard stories involving Garmin and TomTom and now it’s Mio’s turn. Next year will be an interesting one… Can’t wait for the 3GSM.
