Mobile phones are lifeline for the homeless

While I do agree it’s the arguable fact that mobile phones have improved our daily lives, some people — including the truly yours — certainly think so. And I’m sure I’m not the only one…

Mobile phones are lifeline for the homelessWhile we’re on the subject of improving lives with mobile technology, apparently homeless people are also increasing using mobile phones. As a matter of fact, a mobile phone is considered a “critical tool in getting off the streets.” Without a phone number where they can be reached, filling out applications for jobs or housing is often useless for the homeless.

As a proof, News Tribune is quoting workers at Fort Worth’s homeless shelters who say the number of guests with cell phones is growing rapidly, and some shelters have even reported problems with too many guests seeking outlets to charge their phones.

Again, I like seeing mobile technology finding new, unprecedented ways of improving people’s lives, even though it’s the home and not the latest mobile gadgets people ultimately want in this case…
