MetroPCS announces the Samsung R410

Free unlimited calling plans are MetroPCS’s forte, but they just don’t have any youth-oriented messaging phones. As such, MetroPCS has announced that they are picking up the horizontally-sliding Samsung R410 to boost their wireless stable. What’s with the horizontal slider, you ask? Why, it reveals a full QWERTY keyboard for the text-messaging set.
Unfortunately, when $35 unlimited calling plans are involved, you’ll have to sacrifice a couple power-features. The MetroPCS Samsung R410 trades a multi-megapixel camera and EVDO data connection for a lowly VGA shooter and 1xRTT data speeds. On the up-side, there’s a bit of stereo Bluetooth goodness to keep you in Bluetooth-headphone-bliss as you lament the absence of a decent data connection.
But hey, if unlimited wireless calling on a text-messaging ace like the Samsung R410 is everything you’ve been wishing for, then head on over to MetroPCS and grab your own Samsung R410 for somewhere between $150 and $200. Oh, and unlimited AIM chats, text messages, and internet access will bump up your unlimited calling plan to $50 a month.
Actually, for the price and the intended demographic, we’re liking the Samsung R410 more and more.

I have the phone. Got it a week ago. I love it. The only thing I dont like is the low memory. And also, when someone send you a song, it doesnt give you the option to put it as a ring tone or an alert for txt msgs or anything like that. I hate it! If anyone knows a way around this let me know! Other than that..the phone works and sounds way better than my old Kyocera Strobe which I had because it also had a QWERTY keyboard!

Which is a little out of date (The plans changed November 1st-8th). The $45 Rate Plan (before Taxes, like all the others) now includes all the mentioned. The only benefit of the $50 rate plan is access to the Mail@metro application, which allows you to access your email from your phone, and it’ll alert you when a new message has arrived.

Sent through Bluetooth? Thats something all Samsungs block. The r400, u520, a870… Haven’t figured out why yet - because a lot of the phone’s manuals say they can. But the Software is Branded, and the manuels aren’t. I have a suspicion that Samsung placed the block in the software for… well, I have no idea why.

I got one and the battery life SUCKS. On standby it’s out in 20 hours and you can talk for about 2. Everytime a message comes in it lights up the display so that suck the power out of the phone. I also had it for a week and when battery keep running down my local MetroPCS swapped batteries to see if it was bad. Went back two days later to swap for a new phone and Metro told me the phone had moisture in it. I am a 60 year old business man who keep the phone holstered when I am not dialing as I use bluetooth. I don’t know what happened with that crap but the phone never got near any water. If you can live with lousy battery life, blue tooth that only allows a head set and no software to program the phone it’s great. But I needed Email and I needed it bad. Miss my Nokia 6255….that was a GREAT PHONE.

You are a 60 year old business man? What in the bloody hell are you doing using METROPCS? It sucks. Besides, the phone has a good battery life, mine does anyway, but I hate the phone because you cant really customize it with ringtones that people send you. It wont let you set it as any default or incoming voice/txt messages. The phone is a load of crap…but the reason I still have it is because I dont pay for it…the company I work for does. So yea…

I just got this phone, and let me tell you, im dissapointed in it. long story short,
I had a strobe that the screen started freezin up on me and I bought a motorokr. I had it stolen and now got an r410.. The keyboard and design are nice, but for somereason, unlike my strobe and rokr, i can’t download pics, ringtones, and to me, i like to be able to create my phones personality, I prefer both my strobe and rokr over this, the strobe has a keyboard too but u can do alot of other stuff with it to that you cant on the R410

To Angel who wonders why a 60 year old business man uses METROPCS. I pay my own bills “Sonny” so being that I am in a business where I often have to do 2 way conference calls for hours at a time, METROPCS save $$$$$. METROPCS works extremely well in the Palm Beach area and that’s what I want. You “gifted” a phone by management. I write my own checks for my expenses which are quite formitable.

this phone is a good phone for txt and pictures thats all, cant get free ringtones from “funformobile.com” says not supported. and we all hate paying 2.99 for ring tones espessially when u can buy the whole song from for .99

Download bitpim and use either bluetooth or a usb data cable to copy mp3 ringtones, pics & sounds to your phone. I got tons of kick ass ringtones now.

Don’t waste your time on this phone. It’s complete trash so is metro pcs. They shouldn’t scam their customers. We make their money to line thier pockets. This Phone is misleading as far as Ringtones. Piece of Trash I want to set it on fire. I should have stayed with SPRINT. I think I will Switch back. Metro Pcs needs All of us ANGRY CUstomers to sue them in court for missleading us, poor customer service, they lie, won’t give out corporate headquarters phone number. Yea that’s right I called the METRO PCS local main office and the manager there would not give me headquartes phone number. We need to bring class action law suite, Contact attorney General, contact BBB and tell your friends to stay away from this phone company, they are only good for Texting,. Their phones are remanufactured trash. Better yet, they are the phones that didn’t pass Quality Check at the Manufacture. Metro buys them for prob 20$ a Piece. The samsung R410 Is TRASH TRASH AND MORE TRASH. COntact SAMSUNG. If Millions of us contact them about the same issues,THE R-410 Maybe they will do something about it. the phone says it can download ringtones but you can’t unless u buy them from metro. it’s all a scam, they tell u, u have to contact the store for specific info the dumb asses at the metro main 611 don’t know anything. They are trained to lie about EVERYTHING a customer asks, I mean anything and everything. They tell you, we don’t have the answer, well how does a store know more info than the main Metro PCS source THe 611 customer service. Yes I bought my phone from a corporate store and they are full of it. They told me that there was nothing wrong with my keyboard and there was, I had to hit it DIRECTLY in the center, not to the right or left or it wouldn’t work.. I finally got it replaced on the 30th day(warranty). They tried telling me I had to pay $10 and I told him what r u talking about I have till the end of this business day b4 my warranty is up. he said yea ur right. there is a scam right there.

Yes, you have to purchase ringtones. Why would downloading for free on a phone be any different from downloading free on the internet? It’s all illegal and Samsung is the company that puts the block on the phone. I’d talk to them…
Also, people make mistakes. If they told you $10 it was probably just a mistake. And FY1: 611 is contracted from a different organization. In other words, they’re not MetroPCS employees. In my experience, they know absolutely nothing. If it’s such a scam why not go to a different company? Go on Craigslist and sell your phone, I’m sure you’ll get your money back.

I want this phone. And as for Metro PCS. It is awesome. I never have to worry about my bill changing amounts! The price is cheap and I can talk and text ALL I want and NEVER worry about going over my minutes. I dont even get a fee to turn my phone on if it gets turned off cause I can not pay my bill on time. I love it and would recommend Metro PCS to anyone and everyone! I already do everyday! So, if you dont like it, go somewhere else where they are really scamming you. If Metro PCS can give you unlimited calls and texts for only $45 dollars a month, why do the other places want to charge you $99. That is a rip off!

I just got this phone a few days ago and so far I’m very happy with it. It’s a huge upgrade from my old phone (LG VX3200). I’m getting used to the keyboard, it’s kinda small, but everything else is awesome. The camera takes really good pics for a VGA and so what if you can’t get ringtones for free. Getting them for free is illegal anyway, so that’s more than likely the reason Samsung put up the block. If it’s really that big of a deal, then put your phone on silent for goodness sakes.
I think this phone is the best phone Metro has right now. They have too many imitation razrs and slvrs anyway, which are all worse than this one. PLUS METRO JUST LOWERED THE PRICE TO 159. Yup. So I got this phone for 171.33, with tax and everything.
So, if you don’t mind not being able to have custom ringtones (which I don’t find a big problem - some of the ringtones installed are okay) , then I would DEFINITELY recommend this phone to anyone who is or is going to be on the MertroPCS network.

i have the phone and i get a new phone every year and this phone is not bad i talk for longer then 2 hours and i just dont like the buy the ringtone part other than that it is a goo phone . there are ways aroud the ringtone situation but you have to know the way to do it is all

R450 is the newest version…looks way better then the R410…the keyboard is bigger with more features as well and the phone itself has more features

Look up “Samsung r410 Ringtones” on YouTube; there’s a step by step tutorial to load ringtones on your R410. You need a bluetooth dongle for your computer ($10 on ebay, more at a store), but that’s it.
Samsung has a universal lock on free ringtones. This bluetooth trick will work for any Samsung (if it has bluetooth technology.) Seriously, try it. It works.

Regarding battery life: If you aren’t actively using Bluetooth functionality then disable it (under Tools). The Bluetooth radio uses a lot of power even if you aren’t using it actively. Same with Location Services and the “Loopt” application, which can share your location with friends using the phone’s GPS feature. It shares even when you aren’t using the app, so disabling that and making Location Services share with “911 only” also saves battery power. Just my suggestions, still learning about it….

people should never get metropcs because coustomer servies are very mean and they dont help people and when people leave the store the people who works for metrops will talk shit behid people back they do that a lot and the coustomers get very mad i use to have metropcs but not any more they suck and there no good they should go out of bussines soon and nobody likes metropcs and never buy it at a booth where they se cell phone people say those phone are stolen the people who work at the booth onece they seel you a phone thy will run and take the money and leave at the malls if people want to return it they cant and some people call the police on those people who sell stollen metropcs cell phones u no that cant happen the booth that sell cell phones at the malls are stole cell phones if u want a metropcs phone to to the main sore only
