MetroPCS announces the Samsung R410

Free unlimited calling plans are MetroPCS (NYSE: PCS)’s forte, but they just don’t have any youth-oriented messaging phones. As such, MetroPCS has announced that they are picking up the horizontally-sliding Samsung R410 to boost their wireless stable. What’s with the horizontal slider, you ask? Why, it reveals a full QWERTY keyboard for the text-messaging set.
Unfortunately, when $35 unlimited calling plans are involved, you’ll have to sacrifice a couple power-features. The MetroPCS Samsung R410 trades a multi-megapixel camera and EVDO data connection for a lowly VGA shooter and 1xRTT data speeds. On the up-side, there’s a bit of stereo Bluetooth goodness to keep you in Bluetooth-headphone-bliss as you lament the absence of a decent data connection.
But hey, if unlimited wireless calling on a text-messaging ace like the Samsung R410 is everything you’ve been wishing for, then head on over to MetroPCS and grab your own Samsung R410 for somewhere between $150 and $200. Oh, and unlimited AIM chats, text messages, and internet access will bump up your unlimited calling plan to $50 a month.
Actually, for the price and the intended demographic, we’re liking the Samsung R410 more and more.

Regarding battery life: If you aren’t actively using Bluetooth functionality then disable it (under Tools). The Bluetooth radio uses a lot of power even if you aren’t using it actively. Same with Location Services and the “Loopt” application, which can share your location with friends using the phone’s GPS feature. It shares even when you aren’t using the app, so disabling that and making Location Services share with “911 only” also saves battery power. Just my suggestions, still learning about it….
people should never get metropcs because coustomer servies are very mean and they dont help people and when people leave the store the people who works for metrops will talk shit behid people back they do that a lot and the coustomers get very mad i use to have metropcs but not any more they suck and there no good they should go out of bussines soon and nobody likes metropcs and never buy it at a booth where they se cell phone people say those phone are stolen the people who work at the booth onece they seel you a phone thy will run and take the money and leave at the malls if people want to return it they cant and some people call the police on those people who sell stollen metropcs cell phones u no that cant happen the booth that sell cell phones at the malls are stole cell phones if u want a metropcs phone to to the main sore only

i am buying the red r410 slider off of a lady on ebay….and i thought that this phone would be the best thing that happend to me…but all theses bad comments are making me change my mind and i havent sent the money order?any comments on this
NO screen-it doesn’t work so don’t bother. the name will pop up while your phone is ringing–so if you happen to SEE that you’re missing a call, great–but then later, when and IF it tells you that you have a missed call–”no name.” about the “if” it tells you have a missed call. I tested my phone by calling it from another phone twice. I left a voice mail both times…however, when I went to check that on my phone it said that I had NO voicemail AT ALL, i never even dialed out of the phone–just left a message, and it was just i guess deleted somehow–so scary if an employer calls or a client (for a business owner) calls, tells me they left a message and then think I either a.) ignored them or b.) am lying when I say I never received a voicemessage. Also, I mentioned earlier that I’d called twice and left 2 separate voicemails–well, later that day, my phone said that I had NO missed calls–they just magically dissappeared. Wow–um, you’d have to be STUPID to buy MetroPCS after reading this, now that you KNOW that you may or may not receive the voicemails, or at least the missed calls callers leave you.
Oh yeah, and this was a brand new phone and a brand new service. I am returning it. What a waste of gasoline, time, and energy spent researching what phone would work.
Oh yeah, one more thing…4 years ago I’d put MetroPCS on my phone without telling like anyone, and it just turned out like that night or next day I would have ended up deperately needing it well…hmm…yeah, I payed for a service, and didn’t receive it–nothing…I thougth it was some stupid operartor human error–but nope, just a HORRIBLE business plan for cellphones…sorry, I was previously a fan of no contracts–but not for causing potential contracts–i’ll be without a phone until I can afford better.

Not downing what you have to say at all, everyone is entitled to feel however they want. Possible explination for that. At times when we are placing a call or when two people in the world decide to call us at the exact same time…one will get through and the other will get voicemail. If you are in the process of making a call any incoming calls will go to voicemail. It only takes a split second for something like that to happen. I am not (not) agreeing that Metro’s client base is growing faster then they are by millions. Lack of technical support and customer service will never break them because of the monthly costs and the fact that most people now a days don’t care to keep their credit in line and have to resort to those types of prepaid plans and that’s the best one out there today.

Yes. What is also awesome about this phone is that it comes with that usb cord that connects straight to your computer from your phone. You have to put a memory card in your phone first, but you can put any song from your computer into one of the folders on your memory card for either music or ringtones, images also. Then you can save any song as your ringtone. So cool.
I have the r450 and i like it alot. I couldnt get ringtones at first until i bought the micro sd card for the phone, it’s about 18 dollars for a 2 gig at WalMart. After you put the card in the phone plug in the usb that came with the phone and your computer should recognize it. You can tell by going to ‘my computer’ and find the new letter drive and open it. Then go to ringtone sites like mytinyphone.com or wherever you want and download the tone to your computer, then drag it into the ringtones folder.
i have the red samsung r410 slider n it sucks the memory is bad n u cant get free ringtones like all the other phones….n the memory sux i am constanly havin to delete shit off my phone i wish i never got this phone samsung sux….samsung has a block to where u cant get free ringtones i paid 240 dollars for this phone n cant do shiit stay away from getting samsung period!!!!! Dont waste ur money!!!
OK THIS FONE IS ALRITE! THE ONLY THING THAT SUCKS ABOUT IT IS NOT BEING ABLE TO GET FREE RINGTONES BUT U CAN STILL GET MIDI TONES IF SOME ONE SENDS EM IN A TXT MESSAGE!! ALSO I UPGRADED TO THE SAMSUNG r450 NOW THAT IS A BAD FONE TIGHT!! I WORK FOR METRO BY THE WAY SO MY 25 DOLLAR CELL FONE BILL IS TIGHT!! I LOVE METRO!!

I have this phone and I love it. If you have the plan which includes internet and you want free ringtones and wallpapers. Visit Myxer.com on your browser. Enter any artist or topic and then select your desired option (ringtones, wallpapers, videos, games) then click search. Some cost but most are free. You can even go to Myxer.com on your computer at home and listen to them before you download them to your phone. You can even upload any song you have on your hard drive and customize your own ringtone. I have tons of wall papers and ringtones now. Hope this helps.
This is a great phone no major issues. I would like to know, i have been sent pictures messages the reach 50 kb, is there a way to expand my kb so i may receive larger messages.?
