Microsoft serious about mobile social networking; Acquires technology from WebFives

WebFivesIt seems that getting a piece of “Facebook action” is just not enough for Microsoft (NSDQ: MSFT)’s social networking plans. Now, they went ahead acquiring technology from web and mobile social networking service WebFives. In case you’re not familiar with WebFives, it’s a social network focused on mobile content like videos, music and photos; that allows users to access their site both via computer or using a mobile phone.

Anyway, as a result of acquisition (we don’t have a dollar figure), WebFives will be closing its virtual doors to the end-users, who should now (according to WebFives) start using MSN Spaces and/or Windows Live for their social networking experience. Guess that was also included in the price… ;)

Nice to know about WebFives. Of late I am coming across a lot of news which speaks about mobile social networking. Recently I bumped into a service called MoDazzle.

It is about accessing SN sites through mobile. Registration is free for it. I can access Facebook Linkedin through it. I liked it and I have registered for it too… Accessing these sites is via SMS and email. So you don’t need any internet or GPRS. Here is the site, if you want to know more about it. http://www.modazzle.com?channel=CM&camp=mnim
