And the winner is…T-Mobile (NYSE: DT)! After waiting on a delayed ruling from a Hamburg court in Germany, it seems that Apple (NSDQ: AAPL)’s iPhone-distribution partner in Germany has won the battle against rival carrier Vodafone (NYSE: VOD). The court has overturned a temporary injunction that forced T-Mobile to sell unlocked versions of the iPhone alongside the locked, T-Mobile-exclusive iPhone - which basically allows T-Mobile to resume exclusive sales of iPhone locked to T-Mobile’s network.
To the probable dismay of MVNO Debitel, T-Mobile Germany has announced that they will stop selling unlocked iPhones, but will offer a free unlocking service to all iPhone owners upon contract-expiration. “We are pleased with the outcome,” T-Mobile spokesman Rene Bresken said.
Kudos, T-Mobile. We’re glad you won that BS injunction prompted by Vodafone’s bitter-regret for not having won the iPhone contract.
