How-To: Add third-party sources to your iPhone’s Installer.app

Posted by Will on Thursday, December 6th, 2007 at 3:28 pm under Applications, iPhone

I recently found myself needing to add a third-party repository to my iPhone’s Installer.app “Sources” list. An application repository is basically a handful of third-party applications meant for Installer.app. Repositories are hosted by various developers - Ste, Conceited Software, ModMyiFone, etc.

While Installer.app is a great way to add third-party applications to your iPhone, you won’t be able to access a particular developer’s applications-list without adding their repository to your “Source” list.

Here’s a quick tutorial on just how to add application sources like ModMyiFone’s application repository:

  1. Jailbreak (updated Jailbreak method for v1.1.2 iPhones) your iPhone - the Nullriver Installer application (Installer.app) will automatically install itself
    Installer.app Nullriver
  2. Start-up your Installer.app
    Installer.app Nullriver
  3. Hit up the “Sources” section
    Installer.app Nullriver
  4. Then hit “Edit” in the upper right corner
  5. You should see the “Refresh” button replaced with the “Add” button in the upper left corner, hit that.
    Installer.app Nullriver
  6. Enter the address of the developer’s repository (for MMi, it’s http://modmyifone.com/installer.xml)
    Installer.app Nullriver
  7. Click “Done” and you’re, well, done! You should now see new applications from the developer in your “Install” section - adding the MMi source will result in a new “ModMyiFone.com” category as well as a host of other “MMi” categories.
    Installer.app Nullriver

That’s it, pretty painless right? If you have any questions, leave it in the Comments section.
