San Francisco-based start-up Hyphen-8 has been beta testing their new mobile social network called LimeJuice since October. Their idea is to provide users with an easy-to-use and convenient way to flirt with other people.

As we've said the service is easy-to-use: SMS is the key technology being used by LimeJuice, meaning there's no third-party native nor Java applications needed to be installed. Everyone can participate, whichever phone they have.

It's convenient: users register simply by sending SMS, and all communication is routed through LimeJuice's servers, providing users (especially ladies) with a much needed privacy. No phone numbers are exchanged.

Finally, it's interesting to note the way Hyphen-8 is promoting its service. They are actively sponsoring parties at bars and clubs in San Francisco to get users to try out the product with lots of others at the same time. The test results are encouraging with people spending about 1.5 hours using the service, and some of them even send up to 180 text messages during the night. According to Hyphen-8, at one event, participants sent over 2,500 messages to the service. Wow!

Sounds promising! And in case you know someone who sits on a cashpile, you may want to recommend him/her to invest in these guys. They are currently pitching for a Series A round of funding…
