Samsung hard drives

Samsung will showcase the “world’s first” 1.3-inch hard drive during the CES in Las Vegas in January 2008. The interesting thing about the news, is that this could lead into wider adoption of small hard drivers in portable devices. I doubt that we’ll see them used in mobile phones right from the start, but Mobile Internet Devices (MIDs) like Nokia (NYSE: NOK)’s Internet Tablets seem like a viable platform for such technology. This is not to say that the Flash-based memory will/should be removed — it’s easy to imagine a device that boasts both Flash memory and a small hard drive, providing users with both performance and storage capacity at the lower price point. Nokia are you listening to this? Make the next Internet Tablet come with one of these and pre-load as much software and content as you can. We’ll love ya for that. :)
