MetroPCS launches the Samsung R410

By Will Park on Friday, December 14th, 2007 at 8:40 PM PST In Accessories, Devices, MetroPCS, Samsung

Samsung R410 on MetroPCSRemember that easy-to-use, messaging phone that Samsung was sending over to MetroPCS (NYSE: PCS)’s network? Yea, well, it’s finally gone live in time for some last-minute holiday shopping. The Samsung R410 will bring some QWERTY-based messaging prowess to MetroPCS’s mid-range lineup. At a $200 price point, this thing is actually at the higher-end of the carrier’s stable, but with features like a VGA camera (they call it a “high-resolution” shooter, but we know better) and Bluetooth as the most-advanced offering, the Samsung R410 isn’t all that high-end.

Still, if unlimited calling plans and text-messaging focus is what you’re looking for, then the Samsung R410 on MetroPCS should do you just fine. Grab it for the aforementioned $200 in your choice of black or red. We like the red, but you can’t go wrong with black.

Message for confused jackie: I am in the process f getting ready of t-mobile all together. They are high as heck and just an fyi, I just sold my sidekick II. I culd no longer afford it. You have to pay your regular plan in addidtion to a sidekick plan to use all those special features. It is awesome, put if it’s not in your budget, don’t bother. Also remember, you will be locked in a contract but from what I hear about metro pcs, T-mobile does have awesome customer service, grace on late pay, and very limited dropped calls.

Ok, everyone, it’s not the phone, it’s MetroPCS. They had Samsung design these phones so that you are not able to download ringtones and wallpaper from nowhere other than MetroPCS. There is a way around it and after much trial and effort, I found the way for my Samsung R400 phone.

My carrier is MetroPCS and I have the Samsung R400 phone. After much trial and error getting songs and graphics to load, I finally hit the jackpot. The below instructions worked for me and I have just finished testing with great success. I hope this works for other with Samsung R400 and/or MetroPCS subscribers.

I installed the Samsung PC Studio 3 from the download listed on Samsung.com. I then installed the DataPilot Pix ‘n Tunes software (which I had purchased and could not get it to work before). After installing the Pix ‘n Tune software, make sure you get the updates on DataPilot’s website (you should do this during the installation process when it ask you to).

Next check your Device Manager and make sure the followings are listed when your phone is connected to your computer’s USB port.
    Modems – SAMSUNG CDMA Modem
Ports – SAMSUNG CDMA Modem Diagnostic Serial Port
USB – SAMSUNG USB Composite Device

If it is not listed exactly as above, I believe the operative thing is the Modem, Ports and USB should all have Samsung listed.

Make sure you edit you MP3’s that you may set as a ring tone because MP3’s eat a lot of your phone’s memory and may cause the phone to freeze. Thinking about getting an conversion software that converts MP3, WAV, WMA files to QCP files.

Good luck everyone. I hope it works for you as it did for me.
