Sprint LG Rumor gets firmware fix

Sprint sure got that new firmware out fast. Following on the firmware problems that left the door open to let the common user access an engineering menu and wiping their handset clean of any firmware bits, Sprint (NYSE: S) and LG have already released the fixed-up firmware for LG Rumor users to download post-haste.
The new firmware is available to Sprint’s LG Rumor owners and is an OTA (over-the-air) download, so updating your LG Rumor is as easy as a couple button-presses.
Rumor owners can update their firmware by navigating their menu to:
Menu > Settings > Tools > Update Firmware

So how do you upgrade a phone that doesnt make or receive calls? Much less one that doesnt connect to the internet?

Does anyone know what will happen if the battery dies during this update?
Does it wipe or change any applications I have installed, or my data/contacts?
How big is the file that it will download, is there enough room on the phone for that?
How long will it take to run this update and can I use the phone during the update?

Firmware issues are one thing, and easily fixed, but the hardware issues are a problem, especially when LG refuses to fix them.

THE GOOD
The LG Rumor has a lovely design, with a built-in hidden QWERTY keyboard for easy messaging. Features include a 1.3-megapixel camera, an MP3 player, Bluetooth, and more. It provides easy access to Facebook, plus it supports Sprint Navigation.
THE BAD
The LG Rumor does not have EV-DO, and surfing the Web can be quite slow. The screen has poor resolution, and the camera has no flash.
THE BOTTOM LINE
Though the LG Rumor is not as fast as we’d like, it’s still a great messaging multimedia device for those who don’t need a lot of speed.

AVOID THIS PHONE!
I bought one almost a year ago and it developed a ton of problems to display errors to freezing up and powering off for no reason. After contacting LG, they sent me a new phone. Within 24 hours of activation, the new phone developed the same problems and it freezes up all the time. It can take up to 3 minutes to even compose a text message of just a few words because the phone will stop responding mid-word!
A firmware update would have to be pretty magical to fix all these problems.
There is a new firware update. I just downloaded it last night. It is V09
Installing V09 right now too.
October 08′ firmare update fixes compatability issues with the Microsoft Sync feature in Ford vehicles. I just installed it and I can now place calls without the immediate drops.
does anyone know why when you go to lg.com the rumor is not listed? i know it has its own site, but that was mainly run through sprint.
i want to download it, but my screen wont even show to use it. can anyone tell me what to push to update it? i know the exact number of times to go down to update the firmware, but does it ask or make you do anything to update and will it help me be able to see the screen?
@ upset person, just go to menu>settings/tools>tools>update firmware or press “#” w/o quotes of course
it’ll take a few minutes then the phone will shut down then do the update… after about 10-15 minutes, it’ll reboot and viola, you got the new firmware.
btw, is there any way we can know the full list of fixes with the new firmware?
i was trying to down load music off my lap top to my LG RUMOR and i have a usb cord and a micro sd card in my phone but when i plug my usb cord to my phone it dosent read andything. It just charges my phone and when i hit usb mode on my phone it tells me to plug in my usb cord when it already is hooked up to my lap top i still cant figure out how to download lime wire music to my phone????

HEY I HAVE HAD MY RUMOR FOR ABOUT 6 MONTHS NOW AND ALL THE DAMN THING DOES IS RECYCLE ITSELF…TURN ON AND TURN OFF…WHAT CAN I DO TO STOP THIS. I CANNOT EVEN MAKE A PHONE CALL CAUSE IT IS SO BUSY SHUTTING ON AND OFF. I HAVE TO HAVE A PHONE FOR THE HOLIDAYS AND I AM REALLY GETTING PISSED. ANY IDEAS…WHERE I DON’T HAVE TO SEND IT IN FOR REPAIR, CAUSE MY LOCAL STORE SUCKS AND WON’T HAVE A LOANER PHONE TO PUT ME IN AND LIKE I SAID I HAVE TO HAVE MY PHONE!! HHHEELLLPPP
SAMP, if you have an SD card in it, you have to remove it. My phone does the same thing. It will only power up with as LG sd card. I’m able to use other brands, but only if I power it up without the card in.
I own an LG Rumor (Virgin Mobile).
Internal memory is full. However, I can’t delete any files from the phone, as it reports there is not any, anywhere. I noticed this started happening after a few months of owning an LG Rumor. I’ve discovered how it happens : If you set a video, or picture as screensaver ; each time you set a new one, the old one does not delete itself. Instead, it stays inside a hidden folder which is inaccessible from the phone. Now, my LG Rumor is at 2kb/16384kb. Because of this, I can no longer recieve text messages or use the integrated browser. The error message is as follows :
“Memory full. Delete some files from in Phone or My Content.”
There is nothing there. Lmao .. excellent piece of software for this thing. Great job virgin.
Any suggestions or help is appreciated.

I hav had an LG rumor for 8 months and everything was fine but just this last week the screen has went all white. At first the screen turned black and was going in and out. But now its completly white GRRRR!!!! The company is giving me a new one which they should, they should test these things before giving them out!!!!
umm the person that said “AVOID THIS PHONE” for your information 2 things “wrong” with the phone is not a ton acutally. and its supposed to power off for no reason smart one and you probably wanted a new phone so people would think ya kool let mehz tel ya ya not sweetie pie!!! y dont ya get of dis site and stop commenting on here on stuff thats well one not even true and two that i no ur not sure about!!!

Well i don’t know what the update did but my phone still dose the same jobs. my questtion is what are all you guys/gals doing with your phones. I’ve had mine for 18 plus months and only thing i remember it doing was turning off but turning back on again. I wasn’t doing any thing at the time but the phone was in my hand. Other then that my phone has done its job.
