CMO changes at Qualcomm and Virgin Mobile USAWhen it comes to getting your corporate name out into the mobile-ether, the buck stop with the Chief Marketing Officer. So, it seems that our favorite legal-beagle chipmaker and MVNO are shifting around their corporate hierarchy with new CMO’s.

Virgin Mobile USA has announced that its long-time CMO will be stepping down to make room for the company’s former VP of brand and integrated marketing to take a stab at the CMO position.

I’m excited to build on the marketing accomplishments delivered over the past five years, and look forward to defining new an innovative ways to continue to drive demand for the brand,” Stohrer said. “Virgin Mobile is fundamentally a consumer champion and category challenger, and we won’t be bashful when it comes to pointing out why we’re a better way to go wireless.”

Qualcomm has also announced that they will be bringing CEO Paul Jacobs’ brother, Jeff Jacobs on board as the new Chief Marketing Officer. Apparently, Qualcomm is looking to redefine their public image in a “kinder, gentler” sort of way. Jeff Jacobs has been with Qualcomm as an executive VP in global business development, and it looks like he’ll be trying his hand on the marketing-tip.

We’re not sure what Qualcomm’s marketing future holds, but we sure hope they do well. Virgin Mobile USA probably doesn’t need as many blessings as embattled Qualcomm, but we’ll give them a healthy “good luck” anyway.
