Text messaging young supporters works, kinda

Before you start reading, please note that I don’t want to urge you to vote for anyone in particular, rather I just want to show how SMS marketing can be effective — or not — in getting youth to vote.
Anyway, there’s a new study conducted as part of the nonprofit The Student PIRGs’ New Voters Project to demonstrate the effectiveness of using text messages to mobilize young voters. Yeah, the SMS works, well kinda… Young people are 4.2 percent more likely to vote if they receive an SMS reminding them to show up to the polls. That’s not much, but this number adds to the existing marketing activities. And when you add the price of SMS sent to the mix, you should realize it’s quite cost-effective…
