New Nokia N82 Firmware: Version 11.0.117
Posted by Stefan on Wednesday, January 23rd, 2008 at 3:35 am under Nokia
Tip of the hat to my friend R200 on Jaiku for the heads up. I’m updating as we speak, will keep you updated on new features as I find them.
FYI: I had to update my “Software Update” installation to the latest version to get this to work; you can grab it here.
My update log after the jump.
OK I had to reboot my computer, but she is finally downloading:
Screen pulsated for 5 seconds as it neared the end of the flashing, but my phone reboot and she is perfect:
There is over 93 MB of RAM free upon first boot, I don’t remember it being this high:
All of my applications, contacts, text messages and even installed themes are intact. Kevin from the S60 Blogs told us a while back that the N82 is the first S60 device to have something called “User Data Preservation” that is supposed to keep everything on your mobile just the way it was, even after a software update. Looks like it works 100%!
YouTube does not work, no Flash Lite 3 support.
Web Run Time is not enabled either.
Looks like this is a bug release firmware update, no new features.
Symbian Freak got his hands on a changelog and it looks quite small:
- Camera application:
- Improvements of ‘Unexpected error…’ probability when starting up with quick succession of camera lens cover open/close
- Music player (Music player stability):
- Fix for music player freeze when operating app from accessory remote controller e.g. BT headsets, AD-54 etc.
- Map application:
- Reset fix when opening Map app from landmark app
- Long Map app closing time
- Address search in Chinese character

I have some sms bugs that appeared recently like “Text message already in use” when I hit sent, etc, but it seems that it was left out from the Fix list I read over at Symbian Freak… I was hoping that some new features would be included.. No navi wheel too?
January 23rd, 2008 at 5:58 am
Alexandr3: I’ve never seen that bug and the N82 will never have a naviwheel. That video you saw ages ago was of a prototype that did have a naviwheel, but it was decided that that feature would not make it to the retail models.

Dear Stefan,
I absolutely love your site. I check it everyday for the latest news. Keep up the great work!!
Just one thing, what is the software that you have used to display the free ram and memory. Looks like a task manager. Please let me know the name of the software.
Thanks

It is called Handy Taskman. I wrote a review about it here: http://www.intomobile.com/2007/11/19/review-and-contest-handy-taskman-what-little-handy-application-would-you-like-to-see.html

I’ve done updating Nokia Software Updater to be the latest one BUT I still cannot see the latest firmware for N82. Can anyone advise?

@nat
Sometimes the FW will not show up depending on what region your phone is from. For example, if you have a USA model, you may not be able to update your phone as the US models tend to lag behind in this department.
You may have to change your product code to get this update to work.
January 23rd, 2008 at 1:33 pm
Which product code do you guys have thats allowing you to update the firmware?

After product code has been changed NSU still says the phone model is not currrently supported.

That’s what Stefan had before he downloaded the latest version of NSU, I believe.

Do they ever upgrade to a newer feature pack through firmware updates? I mean, I’m due for a new phone but kinda hesitant with feature pack 2 around the corner though the N82 is tempting.

R2/ Mark, how can I change the product code?

R2,
Thanks for the tip, My firmware is updated. I usually perform a Backup/Restore thru PC Suite before a software update. After the update I was very impressed that I didn’t have to perform the restore portion of PC Suite because the update saved all my Contacts/Settings/Apps/etc… I also noticed that when opening up the gallery, It loads much faster even with 4+ gbs of mp3’s and pics.
+1 to R2 and Stefan for the info and Nokia for the new feature with software update.

Forgot to mention that switching profiles to silent by holding down # works!!!!!
Very critical feature that I think a lot of Nokia users take advantage of, It should be a standard for all Nokia devices regardless of which country the device originates from.

i updated to the lates software and now when i play some games or playing a DVD converted movie it somtimes “sttutered” if it’s the right words for it, i mean it like lacking of CPU power for a few second before it stabilize , but it happens randomly . i dont know what causes this as my E90 also some times behave this way Sad
i only installed handy taskman and skyiepro skyecaller which always running in the background and the ram and phone memory is still free.
is there any software to check wheter i have other “hidden” program that causes this ?
