Now it’s Nokia and Facebook…..?

No sooner am I listing platforms, than stories appear about another handset vendor (actually not another vendor, but THE vendor!) potentially doing a deal with our favourite social network …

Apparently the deal revolves around Facebook being preloaded on Nokia (NYSE: NOK) devices, in return for Nokia taking a stake in the company. This is interesting compared to Myspace, who have gone down the carrier route instead of device vendors.

Facebook now has a valuation of $15 billion (yes, billion), but are unlikely to IPO until the markets regain some strength from the recent hammering they have taken.

So, Facebook on your Nokia – Thumbs UP or DOWN?

Personally, don’t give a flying F about having Facebook (pretty much all social networking sites without a point are.. er.. pointless to me). However, would be a good additional step/stone in Nokia’s web strategy. Also, I think Facebook would be VERY VERY VERY smart to go the vendor/manufacturer route as it gives them (more or less) immediate GLOBAL presense, and as in the longer term the carriers are hopefully (there are some early signs of that) loosing their stronghold on consumer choise even here in the US.
