gtv Mobile 3.0 gets the German DVB H licence

Mobile 3.0, a JV (joint venture) between MFD (a German Mobile TV wholesaler) and publishing house Neva Media, has been awarded a license to operate the upcoming Mobile TV platform in Germany. T-Systems obtained the license to build the network in October (something we covered at the time).

The Mobile TV platform is expected to launch in April 2008, to be ready for the European Football Championship. The service will have about 15 channels, comprising a mix of public and commercial broadcasters. Regional programming will also be offered.

– my take on this: it’s fantastic to see a country where spectrum/regulatory issues have not arise, and that deployment of Mobile TV is a short-term reality. I don’t for a second doubt that the service will be deployed really effectively, given the stakeholders now involved in the project. Of course, the all-important statistic/trend everyone will be wanting to see, is the resulting take-up…. we wait with baited breath….!
