Nokia E90 CommunicatorIn case any of you out there are still thinking about buying the Nokia E90 Communicator-monster, we’ve got an update for you. Our friends at All About Symbian think that there’s an updated Nokia E90 Communicator shipping with a revised keyboard.

The current generation (or previous generation, depending on how you look at it) Nokia E90 Communicator was designed with a keyboard whose keys would make imprints on the touchscreen when the handset was closed. The new E90 v2 has ostensibly been fitted with a “flush keyboard” that doesn’t make those annoying marks on the display. It’s a potentially minor fix that could make a huge difference for greasy-fingered gadget-mongers.

However, from the looks of the forum thread that sparked this rumor, the prevailing thought is that there is no update on the Nokia E90 Communicator. If anyone has been able to get their hands on a revised Nokia E90, leave a comment, will ‘ya?

But how popular is this communicator ?

i heard it was a flop

    anyone ?

  • jouni

Rumours say it’s very big in Indonesia – because it’s big. It’s a macho thing…

Varun: The E90 was never meant to be a mass-market device so I don’t know exactly what would constitute sales flop.

  • newtype2011

I agree with Stelios – - it is a niche device and is priced accordingly.

In response to the post, it is beyond me why Nokia would ship the phone with this issue; it disgusts me that they knowingly ship E90s with keyboards that touch the screen and N95s which have horrible sliders.

…do they even test these things for more than a few days before releasing them to the public? I mean, seriously?

I’ve recently taken delivery of an E90 from Vodafone UK and it’s the new revised model with completely flat keyboard and rev 14 motherboard. No marks on the screen at all from keyboard and no creaks from case, sits very flat on my desk with no wobble (like the ols version did apparently!)

  • elle

will vodafone deliver it to a usa resident? if so can you give me the website? does nokia uk have the same phone? or do you need to pick it up in the uk?

  • elle

also will this phone work well with at&t, blackberry connect etc. and can you still get support from nokia usa?

  • danilo

The nokia e90 variant in w/c the keypad doesn’t touch the screen – it does exist.

My girlfriend and I both own communicators. Unfortunately, mine was touching the screen – her’s does not.

the next best solution is to buy a screen protector. It’s a sticker film for the screen. costs 100.00 pesos in the Philippines (approx = $)2

Further update on my new Vodafone Nokia E90: After switching to a dark (black) coloured theme I noticed that the external screen had 6 lazy pixels (i.e. show as white on a black background!) The internal screen was perfect. Called Vodafone without much hope they’d do anything, but to my surprise they shipped out a brand new E90 free of charge to replace my original one – This one is absolutely perfect and is also the new model with completely flat keyboard that doesn’t touch the screen. Well done Vodafone – They’re customer care and service is second to none.

  • E90 Rocks

Oops I meant “their” customer care and service – soz!

  • Zak

Ugh, I wish we had those kind of service providers in Canada, lol they would never even consider picking up a phone like the communicator

Well to say the least nokia e90 for what its worth is priceyyyy but it is a nokia which mean years to play with and quality. I use to be a windows maniac symbian is much more stable and the on board features are perfect you need no software upgrade to run the nokia e90 as you do with windows devices so for that 1100 aust dollar its worth it bcos you’d pay an extra 200 in software for windows application for a dopod or tytn 11 or even the ultimate series from imate which is a total software headache and i know i own all devices just to get the pda to run properly- I do have the updated flush keyboard of the nokia e90 perfect and the keyboard a little stiff but with practice im at least 40plus words a minute on this bad boy and im 6’7 with big hands- hands down nokia e90 is perfect if there is a word for that in a pda

  • elle

where did you get this e90 with the flush keyboard?

  • sean

In reply to where did i buy the nokia. Nokia sent me the phone i own a phone shop in australia and sell nokia products so the distributor i use sent me the phones and there is a diff- they say its all black etc on forums i have read but the models i have are the same exact phone but with the flush keyboard so thats about it…..

  • asl4u

I bought mine from Amazon.com (US). I’ve been waiting for a better communicator since the wonderful 9290… 9300 & 9500 were just too slow. so far, I’ve had this phone for 4 days and I’m quite pleased.
Someone said this is for a niche market – I think Nokia has DECIDED that it will be for a niche market – if they’d lower the price a bit and turn it out as a phone – they’d make alot more money on it – and people who got a chance to pick it up and look at it would want it. Its a very cool phone.
I dont know why they treat it as second class (at least here in the US)… there’s an awful lot of gadget geeks here who would love this phone!

I’ve been using the Nokia 9300 for years, here in the US. I’ve been contemplating the upgrade to the E90 for the last few months now. Has there been a total recall of the prior “faulty” keyboards, or would it be safe to say that the purchase of any E90, as of March 2009, may still require an in-store peak, making sure the phne purchased had the new keyboard and/or motherboard?

  • J.A. Buchanan

To: Ronin, definitly store peak. I bought one off amazon, but it was version one, sent it back, amazon overnighted me a replacement, same thing again…version one and the box was not properly packed for shipping. Sent the second one back, ordered directly over the phone with Nokia ( since online sales of the E90 no longer exist). Got a second day air from the flagship store in Chicago, just opened it up about 20 mins ago, this time it was version two but WITH the keyboard problem. Nokia is obviously still having the same problem they did with version 1.

I’m going to return this one too, and just preorder the N900 which comes out in a month…in my eyes the N900 is the next step in the communicator series of phones.
