What does Motorola and Symbian think of Nokia’s Trolltech purchase?

A Symbian Spokesperson gave a statement to ZD|Net and apparently said they are thrilled that Nokia (NYSE: NOK) plans to port Qt to S60 and it agrees with Nokia’s statement that this purchase will make S60 more competitive in the marketplace.
Motorola (NYSE: MOT) told Linux Devices that since joining the LiMo foundation over a year ago they’ve been in the process of switching to GTK; none of Motorola’s development tools are based on Qt either.
There you have it. The whole mobile industry is sitting on their hands trying to understand why Nokia purchased Trolltech. I think they did it to reduce coding redundancy, others say Nokia plans on gutting Symbian, frankly we will not know what the outcome is for at least a year or two since that is typically how much time it takes for a mobile phone to be conceived, prototyped and shipped.
