AT&T EDGE network is down – AT&T data network blackouts rolling through Midwest and Southeast US

It looks like the tech-heads at AT&T (NYSE: T) have no idea what left AT&T EDGE and UMTS data customers without their precious data connection.
Leave it to a multi-billion dollar company to not know what caused their data network to take nose-dive for 9 hours.
If you’re in the Midwest or Southeast US and you’re trying to access AT&T’s data network, you may just be doing so in vain. AT&T has announced that it is experiencing problems with its data network in the Midwest and Southeast regions of the US.
An AT&T spokesperson said that some customers “may be experiencing trouble accessing data on some devices.” The list of affected devices includes the iPhone, and presumably many other handsets trying to connect to AT&T’s EDGE network.
The problem seems to be related to six GGSNs having “rolled over.” Whatever, just get it fixed right quick, AT&T.
We can verify that the Los Angeles and New York networks are going strong. Anyone having problems?

oh AT&T had to put the system down for installing the new link to the NSA
Oh…I thought maybe they had shut it down on my new Q9. Any ideas why 3G is also effected? Perhaps the 3G icon is not true to the network being used.
Everything seems fine here in Orlando, FL. I suppose we could all gain a little by not being connected for a day or two -

As of 10:51 here in Los Angeles on Feb 5th, EDGE services still not available on my iPhone. So… no email and no internet.
I’m in Columbia Maryland right now and the 3G network is not responding…
I live in the East Bay Area(Contra Costa County CA), and not had the data network for 3 days now, it f’n sucks!

I an in Port Hueneme (Ventura) California and I can’t get a data connection email from my 3G iPhone all day today. It is so frustrating. The display shows full bars signal and the 3G icon. I have rebooted my 3G iPhone about a dozen times with no luck. I can still get get data and email with my Motorola Q9 though. What’s up?

3G down in Boston today,(iphone) Feb. 9, 2009. Called ATT and they said “we dont have any reports”… rrrrrrright
Haven’t had Edge (iPhone 2G) since Monday.
I have no 3G here in Ft. Myers FL either. Since Feb26. I have full signal bars and 3G icon is on and i can still connect to the internet but data transfer is a torturous slow. 3 weeks ago i was downloading at a modest 120kbs, now im barely pulling 15! AT&T cs says theres no reports of outage in my area and i find that hard to believe. Im sure there are plenty iphone and bb users here. They insist that its my phone. This happened around 7months ago also and they said the same thing. And the day i was to get a new sim(both at&t and nokia suggested this) my 3G started working again. So after reading some tonight i think ive come to realize that its not just an iphone problem. 2 or 3 days of this i could understand, even a week. But im about at the 3 week mark. Unfortunately my unlocked phone wont work with tmobiles 3G network.
ATT Edge is down in DC again. It has been down for two days and ATT has not posted any notice nor notified customers. I called a few times and was told it would be up at 3 pm on March 24. It is now 9:30pm and still no service. We are going on day 3. ATT needs to be sued.
