Vodafone Italy chooses Amobee for Ad-funded Video

Short, sharp, and sweet: Amobee Media Systems has announced it has been chosen by Vodafone (NYSE: VOD) Italy to supply ad-funded Mobile Video content to it’s users. This will be done in a similar way to recent announcements in Spain, Greece, and the Czech Republic. Quickplay Media will be powering the service using it’s OpenVideo SDP (service delivery platform).
As I have mentioned in my previous post regarding a Mobile Ad conference, now is the time that Mobile Ads are becoming more sophisticated – whilst textual and image banners Ads in WAP are still around, we are now moving in the direction of dynamically-inserted Ad “pre-rolls” (a short ad inserted before the main video content), “interstitials”, and “post-rolls”- of course, the idea with these being that as the user is definitely watching the video (since it’s content they decided to view), then they will definitely see the Ad – hence the “eyeball” (as they call it in Ad-land), has definitely been on the Ad (as oppose to scanning past it on a static page for example).
Vodafone Italy are not the only ones to deploy this technology; 3UK did the same last year with Rhythm New Media.
So what do we think of it though – are you ready to have Ads “shown” to you, in return for cheaper content? Do you want the choice? Or do you not mind?
