For your general interest: Mobile Choice keep a weekly list of the Top 10 postpay and prepay phones in terms of sales, on a weekly basis. Today I thought we’d take a look what they are:

What’s interesting here is the stack of mid-range phones that are doing volume, for postpay. The old faithful Nokia N95 is still hanging in there though!

With prepay, the fantastic Sony Ericsson K800i is now at a very reasonable 80 English Squids, and is seemingly surrounded by a bunch of low-to-mid tier handsets.

    Where’s iphone? Is it selling good in UK?

    iPhone, LoL=)

    Thanks for this piece Ben. It’s always interesting to see what is the rage across the pond. I am shocked to see that the G600 is that high on the list, but, I suppose people still have a warm place in their hearts from the days of the D500 -

    wonderer – I don’t think the iPhone is elligable for the UK charts as O2/Apple won’t disclose how many they are selling. Bizarre really.

    newtype, Samsung handsets constantly sell very well over here, the U600, D900 and so on are all big sellers. The G600 isn’t that bad a handset really, plus when near enough all the phones in the list are free on contract then you’ll get a quite varied top 10.

    I think what surprises me more is that there are phones like the 6300 and 5310 in the contract phone list. The 6300 is only roughly £59 on payg (about $120) so may just go to show that there is a market for a reasonably specced basic handset I guess :smile:

  • MJ

    Oh and some of the pre-pay prices in the chart seem to be more expensive than you can pick them up for, wonder if it is an average price?

  • Ben

    Hi all,

    @newtype2011: no problems :smile:

    @MJ: stats do make for interesting reading sometimes don’t they! I think the prepay prices are blended avaerages, obviously if you look you can always find that elusive deal :smile:

    iPhone isn’t experiencing stellar sales over here. I’d say largely due to the costly contract, two years plus expensive phone. People are used to getting phones for nearly free on a one year contract, not to mention lack of 3G. Personally I haven’t seen a single person using one on TV or in person, only in the shops.

    I’m surprised to see the 6500 Slide at the top, I know two people with the Classic but no one seems interested in the Slide.
