UK: BT Fusion: no longer

BT is ending it’s Fusion service for the consumer market, after only 45K subs registered since 2005.
The idea behind it was to sign up (lots of subs) who were in to the idea of cutting bills by routing calls over WiFi when they were at home.
Many commentators have blamed the lack of (good/variety) handsets, and the fact that “traditional” MNOs have also been expanding with their own innovative services.
BT is now turning focus on to services stemming from it’s “home hub” DSL router, and a device partnership with HTC. It also runs a large number of “Openzone” WiFi hotspots around the UK.
All this comes at a time when BT’s shares have just dropped 10% due to missing it’s quarterly targets - it blamed that on a drop in premium rate revenues (due to the “phone/text in” scandals that have been occurring almost weekly in the UK in recent times). Oh and also much tougher competition in the Broadband sector.
