It’s been a long time coming. T-Mobile’s 3G network has been promised for so long that it’s almost mythical in nature at this point. T-Mobile USA has had the necessary spectrum licenses for its 3G network for a good while now, but they’ve had to wait on good ole’ Uncle Sam to stop dragging his feet in vacating said spectrum.
Well, CNET has it from T-Mobile’s CEO Hamid Akhavan at Mobile World Congress that T-Mobile is looking at rolling out their AWS 3G network this summer – it seems that no amount of governmental inefficiency can impeded progress forever. Of course, no solid launch date was mentioned – but hey, we’re used to that from T-Mobile by now.
On the up side, Akhavan boasted that T-Mobile’s long-awaited 3G network would be the “best 3G network” in the US. Oh, and how does an Android handset in Q4 2008 sound? Yea, we like the way that sounds too.
