Quote from GigaOm:

volvo ocean race ericsson logo Ericsson CTO predicts mass LTE deployment by 2012Arun Bhikshesvaran, VP of business strategy and CTO for Ericsson North America, said the equipment maker has launched a trial of its LTE baseband equipment with an unnamed carrier. He expects it will be completed toward the end of the year.

He expects 2008 and 2009 to be the trial and test years for the standard and anticipates 2012 will see widespread deployment.

Go LTE, it’s your birthday, gonna pop a cap in WiMAX’s ass they be acting like a fool!

In all seriousness, my stance on the WiMAX versus LTE battle has resulted in many heated instant message conversations and profanity laced email discussions. I’m an LTE kind of guy, Verizon (NYSE: VZ) already said their switching to LTE, Telus (NYSE: TU) in Canada is a CDMA operator in Canada who is switching to LTE, Europe will use LTE by default since it’s an evolution of HSPA, Japan already has LTE trials taking place … so what is wrong with all you WiMAX people? Drink the koolaid already.

Yes WiMAX is already up an running in Korea, yes Sprint (NYSE: S) plans to cover the United States with WiMAX in 2008, but if there isn’t a world wide ecosystem then who cares?

Most Americans don’t care. They never leave America. International Standards are for communists ;-)
