Quick look at the Samsung G810 from Mobile World Congress

Yea, it’s a bit late in coming, but lack of decent internet connection and a bunch of travel-time kept me from uploading this video until now. Anyway, here’s a quick look at Samsung’s new Nokia (NYSE: NOK) N95 fighter, the Samsung G810.

With a 5 megapixel camera that delivers the kind of high-end picture and video performance that you’d expect from a Nokia N95 competitor, the Samsung G810 is the real deal. Anti-shake and 3x optical help nudge the G810 a bit higher than the N95, as does the microUSB port. The absence of the dedicated Symbian keys (yea, it runs the same OS as the Nokia N95 too) is punctuated with the presence of four (two pairs) of programmable/contextual soft-keys.

The slider form-factor is a Samsung staple and they really know how to pull it off. The Samsung G810 isn’t exactly slim, but it’s not a fatty either – it feels great in the hand and looks sleeker than the N95. And that sliding camera lens cover, talk about slick. From the short time I had to play with the Samsung G810, I came away impressed. Although, when I compare this thing to the Nokia N96, my outlook on the Samsung G810 is slightly downgraded to “nice.”

Does anyone have any idea on release dates for this baby?

I’ve seen sources saying March, and some saying June?

Well, one of the booth reps mentioned a Q1 2008 (which would be in line with a March launch) release with a US/North American release by Q3 2008. I don’t know how reliable that info is, the booth rep was a bit unsure of herself.

    Thanks Will!

I think this device is pretty special, it proves that a device can have all the latest technology, and not look hideous (N82 – the color just kills me)

But that screen is debatable, I’m curious to know how it compares against a Nokia 16M color screen. I guess I’ll have to catch a review when it comes out.
