With carriers and manufacturers rushing to get femtocells into the hands of the end-user, the those searches decent wireless signals are going to be a fading memory. Femtocells are basically end-user wireless signal boosters - they help customers get reliable signal strength and reduce infrastructure costs for carriers. No wonder Sprint (NYSE: S)’s already commercialized their femtocell offering and working on bringing to technology to market.
Now it looks like there are a couple new players in the femtocell game. O2 (NYSE: TEF) is working with NEC to trial 3G femtocells in the UK, while Vodafone (NYSE: VOD) Spain is set to trial 3G femtocells from Huawei and Alcatel-Lucent (NYSE: ALU). If all goes well, O2 says that they’ll be offering femtocell technology to customers next year.
Can you hear me know? Darn tootin’ you can!
