T-Mobile gearing up for 3G network rollout – 3G coming soon, 3G T-Mobile Shadow on the way?

T-Mobile (NYSE: DT)’s 3G network just got the green light and the “best 3G network” in the West is chugging along towards its rollout this summer. T-Mobile’s CEO Hamid Akhavan said that we should be looking for the T-Mobile 3G network to go live in summer 2008, but there’s a possibility that the newly expanded carrier will be loosing those AWS 3G airwaves even sooner.
A T-Mobile dealer tipped us off to some serious UMTS activity going on in Chicago.
We’re hearing that the T-Mobile corporate office was filled with frenzied engineers reportedly gearing up for the upcoming UMTS launch. Word is that we’ll be seeing T-Mobile’s 3G network up and running soon, “very soon.” Does that mean T-Mobile will be lighting-off their 3G network before summer 2008? That would be a nice surprise.
In other news, an HTC rep at the same corporate T-Mobile office told our tipster to expect new variants on the HTC Shadow – HTC and T-Mobile has been planning to expand on the Shadow brand, so new variants make sense. We’re going to go out on a limb and say that T-Mobile and HTC are working on a 3G-enabled T-Mobile Shadow variant.
3G handsets, Android smartphones, more Shadow variants. We can’t wait.
We’ll keep you posted on the latest T-Mobile 3G developments! Stay tuned…
Thanks, Fahad Khan!

I am patiently waiting for T-Mobile’s 3G network in the US.
One rumor that I hope it’s true, it’s that there will be a Nokia E51 that supports AWS bands (1700/2100). Hopefully the non-announced Nokia E71 will support those bands as well (a nice upgrade from my E61)!!
For those of you gadget freaks (like me), the Sony X1 is a quad band GSM / five-band 3G (850/900/1700/1800/2100). So if you want an unlocked phone to go from country to country without worries, this would be the one…too bad it doesn’t come out til Q3 this year.
