Apple releases iPhone v1.1.4 firmware update – no iPhone SDK yet

Yea, great. So it looks like the iPhone v1.1.3 firmware isn’t going to be “the” firmware that will play nice with Apple (NSDQ: AAPL)’s forthcoming iPhoneSDK -based third-party applications.
With no mention of the iPhone SDK, Apple has gone and released an update to the iPhone’s firmware lineup. It seems like just yesterday that Apple dropped the iPhone v1.1.3 firmware on us, but such is the game between cat and mouse. The iPhone v1.1.4 firmware is now available through iTunes.
The new code “fixes bugs and supersedes all previous versions,” so if you like your third-party applications and all the joy that comes with a jailbroken iPhone, you’ll want to stay away from the iPhone v1.1.4 firmware. At least, you’ll want to hold off on updating to the new firmware until the iPhone hacking community jailbreaks the iPhone v1.1.4 firmware.
If you’re more the “by the books” type of person, go ahead and connect your iPhone to your computer and hit the “Update” button in iTunes. Let us know if it was worth it. We’re going to put our money on “No, it wasn’t.”

It’ll be worth it when the SDK comes out and it only works with 1.1.4. No better time to suck it up and install it
No better time to install it? How about right before the SDK comes out? That seems like it would be a good time to install it. Or even better, once they finally start coming out with some third party apps. Till then, I’m sticking with installer.app.
Unless the SDK uses this update, this is an attempt (futile) to keep the unlocking/jailbreaking in check – - for a few weeks. On the surface, it appears to be a useless update like many of the psp updates.
the new update unless has some hidden power that will allow sdk apps to run on the iphone it seems to be minor bug fixes no one ever really ggets
Even if this firmware ends up being the one to play nice with official iPhone SDK application, I’m going to wait it out until the iPhone gods jailbreak this sucker.
Apple likely only released this firmware to try and throw a wrench in the iPhone community’s jailbreak solutions. It’s a good thing the iPhone Dev Team kept a secret jailbreak method on the backburner. I have a feeling that we won’t be waiting too long after Apple drops the SDK on us before we have a fully jailbroken v1.1.4.
Wait until this firmware gets jailbroken, people. There won’t be too many iPhone SDK apps initially anyway – it’s not worth it until we can jailbreak it. That is, as long as this firmware is jailbreakable. Fingers crossed…
What can i do if i accidently upgraded my iphone? Is there a way of changing this as i can no longer plug the iphone into my PC???
