Verizon to start selling Samsung U940 as Glyde in late March?

Samsung GlydeIn a move that seem designed to get more attention among both users and the media for the new device once it hits the store shelves, Verizon is reportedly renaming the Samsung U940 to simply “Glyde.” Coping with the numbers is getting harder every day, and my guess is the CDMA carrier wants to differentiate special handsets by “honoring” them with special names. They already sell Venuses and Chocolates, and now — actually that’s in late March — they’ll be rolling out the Glyde (that can slide). ;)

Anyway, Samsung already did the paperwork with FCC and now it’s all about timing. The U940 Glyde is a special, high-end handset and releasing it for the Valentine’s Day doesn’t make much sense. But what the heck is happening in March? Err, nothing – but the way things are progressing, Verizon will be prepared to push some cool news in a usually dull month for the mobile industry. Stay tuned…

Wow that was quick… they must have had it prepared ahead of time and been waiting for the announcement or something.

IMO the Glyde will be the “cost effective” alternative to the Voyager.

The Verizon Glyde isn’t a bad cellphone, but it’s outshone by its rivals. If it had been released back in January at the same time as the F700v appeared, it would have stolen the march on Sprint’s Instinct and all the other touchscreen handsets. However, users are spoilt for choice at the moment, and we would likely recommend other devices before Verizon’s Glyde.

Agreed, not a bad device. But the instinct does look alot more promising then this phone. I also believe that if it was released earlier on in the year it would have had a better shot.

I just got this phone, it’s great. It’s much cheaper than the Voyager, and it’s almost the same thing. With internet, music, and a qwerty keyboard and touch screen, what doesn’t this phone have?

i just bought this phone. The first day i hated it but now im getting used to it and i love it. I had the tmobile wing and it was so bulky compared to the glyde. Its so snall and nice. At first difficult but once you play around with it its easy.
